Yet another large batch of brand
new double-deckers is entering service in force
at First London's Alperton garage. In concert
with the existing VTL-class Volvo B7TLs, the 22
new VWLs and a further batch of shorter-bodied
Volvo B7TLs have been assigned to complete the
conversion of the 83, plus restore double-deckers
to the 92. They will also form the regular
complement on the 79 and 258. In the bitter cold at
Wembley this afternoon is brand new VWL 1399 (LK53 LZA),
displaying a video screen at the front of the
upper deck and a lot of yellow where there is
normally black. This vehicle will be renumbered
into the confusing FirstGroup corporate scheme
shortly, with a VNZ prefix and a five-figure
fleetnumber.
