And Now The 137?
Monday 19th April 2004

Arriva London South AEC Routemaster RML 2351 (CUV 351C) at Hyde Park Corner, 20/08/03 I'm now hearing stories, as yet unconfirmed, that the 137's conversion to OPO has been moved up from September 18th to July 9th. I bet Arriva London South feel lucky they're buying DAFs rather than products from TransBus, who have gone embarrassingly bust in just a third of the time it did for Leyland to do the same thing. Perhaps the 8's conversion will yet slip if the promised Tridents don't get completed on time.

On 20th August 2003, Brixton's RML 2351 (CUV 351C) is seen swinging into Park Lane for a swift run towards Marble Arch.

Please note that the London Bus Page is NOT affiliated with any enthusiast organisation or publication, irrespective of pieces I may write for any such bodies, and represents the observations and personal views of myself only - none of which, may I add, are intended to defame any company or individual. That ought to be patently obvious from the amount of reverence I give to this facet of my country's culture, and my concern at the manner in which it is being taken away, to the detriment of all of us. It would be flattering to believe my small words have an effect on the way London's buses are run, but if I thought that was the case I would have applied for a job with TfL so I could use them to the benefit of all. Wouldn't be the first time - or the third or fourth!

The pieces I write for BUSES, London Bus Magazine and other publications are checked and vetted before they go to press, and I believe I exercise the same restraint here - I am also quite willing to pull or alter comments as I see fit. Still, I reserve my right to declare my disgust with the wastage of our irreplaceable heritage, and my resentment of being forced, through the taxation of my labour, to accept a form of transport which is no longer designed for me or people like me. I don't believe that my opinion to that effect has the slightest effect on the reputation or revenue of any company. It certainly doesn't seem to be making a dent in TfL's unbreakable resolve to remove our Routemasters and the jobs of those working on them!

This is wearying. Any detractors will soon be rid of me - and thousands of others like me - anyway, if that's what they really want. And then where will their support come from?
