When half a million people
descend on a ten-square-mile patch of west
London, they're going to need extra buses to
convey them there and back. Such is the case with
Carnival, which took place for the fortieth time
last Bank Holiday weekend. For the last few years
extra buses have been added to routes passing
through the area, one of which is the 94. This
time last year they were extra RMLs taken from
the 9, which was OPO on Sundays - but on 24th
January the 94 lost its Routemasters in the final
programme. No matter - for one last time, half a
dozen of Shepherds Bush's finest joined forces
with the sweltering Tridents to mount extras on
the 94 between Shepherds Bush and Oxford Circus.
This will not be able to happen again, as the 9
is lost to OPO after Friday night and London
United's Routemasters will be gone.
RM 848 (WLT 848), one of the
second batch of Marshall refurbishments, is
captured passing through Notting Hill Gate on
Saturday afternoon. Traditional white-on-black
blinds have now been installed in this bus.
I can also use
this piece to update London United's
participation in Black Friday as follows:
- The route
9 running day on Wednesday 1st September
will consist of four special buses - RM
1069 from Sullivan Buses, RT 3871 and RTW
75 from Blue Triangle and RML 2665, still
with Stagecoach East London but with the
finishing touches now applied to its
white-based Stagecoach livery.
- The last
day's workings have been expanded to
include London Central RM 9, privately
owned RMC 1469, silver-liveried First
London RM 1650 and two surprises from
Cobham Bus Museum, as yet unidentified! Timetables
are here, courtesy of London
United.
Don't forget
the Tottenham Garage farewell tour on Thursday if
you're in the area served by the 41, 76 and 243.
A third bus has now been added, and this will be
RTW 75 (joining RM 5 and RTW 467).
