The change that released enough
DLAs to see off the last Ls at Norwood affected
route 197 and 312 - one a shadow of its former
self with further contraction to come, and one that had grown from a service
restricted to single-deck into a busy and
important inner city route. On Saturday 3rd
September they simply swapped places. The plan was to keep the
routes as they were, other than a single-deck
conversion for the 197, whose PVR had dwindled to
just six buses, maintaining a route you could
follow by train in mere minutes. However, at a late stage it was
decided to demote the 312 to this Norwood
Junction to Croydon shuttle role and extend the
197 to Peckham in its place. Croydon's PDL 123 (LJ05 GPU), seen at
East Croydon Station, is one of six 10.7-metre
Darts ordered, and without its Arriva cow horn
looks desperately dull in its all-red livery.
The link
between the outer ends of the old 12 is now
completely broken, with that parent route going
no further south than Dulwich, and also demoted
to single-deck operation since last November.
